Brian’s Certified Farmers’ Markets Opens New Location in
the Greater Golden Hill and South Park Communities on April 2
SAN DIEGO, CA—March 21, 2010 – Brian’s Farmers’ Markets, a community leader in bringing local, organic and pesticide-free produce to San Diego’s urban and suburban neighborhoods, is pleased to announce the opening of a fourth market on April 2, 2011 in the Greater Golden Hill and South Park neighborhoods of San Diego.
In the past ten years, the number of farmers’ markets across the United States has increased 80% to over 5,000, as more consumers recognize the health and environmental benefits of organic and pesticide-free foods.
More, many local restaurants patronize the unique, fresh food vendors at Brian’s Farmers’ Markets. The alliance between restaurants and local food producers ranked as the first and second of twenty top culinary trends according to National Restaurant News’ survey of 1,527 chefs associated with the American Culinary Foundation. (see: “Chef’s predict the biggest trends for 2011”)
Manager Brian Beevers explains, “South Park and Golden Hill residents are ready for a farmers’ market. It not only brings the freshest produce directly to the people, but serves as a gathering place--a way to meet environmentally-attuned neighbors, friends and other foodies. Families will like the live entertainment. The market should bring more foot traffic to the area so that existing businesses benefit as well.”
About Brian’s Certified Farmers Markets
Brian’s Farmers Markets owner Brian Beevers accepts only herbicide- and pesticide-free farms as vendors. He gives priority to artisans who sell products with a low environmental impact or that benefit the environment in some way.
A graduate of Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, Beevers quickly recognized the pent up desire San Diegans had for local, pesticide-free food. Beevers also longed to support the local economy by supporting local farmers. He opened his first market in Mission Valley in March of 2009. Many of the families that patronize Brian’s Farmers Markets also receive the weekly box of produce through the market’s community supported agriculture program.
Committed to bringing fresh, pesticide- and herbicide-free produce to all families, Brian’s Farmers Markets constitute four of just six San Diego farmers markets that accept “electronic benefit transfer” so that recipients of public assistance in California, too, can buy organic and pesticide-free produce.
